Sobthin (Crisis Support and Counseling to Women) 1995
Sobthin. Crisis Support and Counseling center for women was set up in 1995 to deal with atrocities against tribal, rural and semi urban women when other units of DK failed to address this issue. The nature of cases have been domestic violence, dowry related harassment, adolescent girl’s emotional grievances, suicides, desertion, wife battering and marital conflict. Few property rights cases and sexual harassment at work are also registered. A consciousness has begun to develop that atrocities against women are not going to be tolerated any more.

Women’s Collective
The realization that individual women’s atrocities is based in the social-political-economic fabric of our society and thus would require strong organizational support. It is the women’s collective strength supported by other sections of society which can boost a woman in her individual struggle to change and actively participate and contribute to the development process of one’s village/society. Hence, the need to launch Stree Gavkia in 2000.This then is the evolution of Disha Kendra
